PRO BONO CHARTER

About the Charter

“Pro bono” is derived from the Latin term pro bono publico which means “for the public good.” In the legal profession, the term generally refers to lawyers providing their legal services for free to those who would not otherwise be able to access legal assistance or representation or whose matter raises an issue of public interest.

The Hong Kong Pro Bono Charter is a statement of commitment to the pro bono movement and ethics, that is open to legal practitioners (including sole practitioners, inhouse lawyers, and barristers), firms, and organisations to join. By signing up to the Charter, signatories make a public commitment to the community that they will engage in and promote pro bono opportunities throughout their practice and/or businesses as well as adopting best practices.

Pro Bono HK is excited about the establishment of the Pro Bono Charter and is working hard to invite signatories to the charter.  If you would like to know more, please contact us via this website. In the meantime, we will also post more information here about our progress.
