Our Legal Clinic Workflow
Step 1: Contact Us
Clients (both individuals and organizations) can reach out to us through many channels such as by phone, email or leave a message on our WhatsApp, WeChat or on our website.
Step 2: Screening Session
After receiving the inquiry and related case information, we will proceed by arranging a screening call. During which we will ask questions to assess the client’s eligibility for assistance with reference to our means and merits test.
Our screening session is an important step and has been widely recognised as a valuable tool for helping clients to better understand their situation. It also provides structure and guidance to identifying the issues and organising the documents relevant to their matter.
Step 3: Conflict Checks
Clients will also be asked to give consent for us to use their personal information to conduct conflict checks with those handling the case including potential volunteer lawyers, so that arrangements or changes can be put in place if there are potential conflicts.
Step 4: Acceptance or Referral
If deemed eligible, we will arrange a session with our volunteer lawyer to provide free legal advice to the client. At this stage, additional documents may be requested as necessary. But due to a lack of resources, not every inquiry or request can be accommodated even if they pass screening.
In those cases where we are unable to assist directly, we will attempt to refer the client to a more suitable organization.
Step 5: Meeting with the Lawyer
During the legal advisory session on a mutually agreed date and time, the client will have the opportunity to inquire about their legal issues with the volunteer lawyer. These consultation sessions are subject to the volunteer’s availability and are typically limited to an hour at a time (multiple sessions are possible depending on the need and availability). Where necessary, we may ask the lawyers to continue with the case, on an ongoing basis, pro bono.
